Hanna's Sabbath Dress An Israeli Folktale

Hanna's Sabbath Dress An Israeli Folktale

By  Itzhak Schweiger-Dmi'El and illustrated by Ora Eitan

Hanna was thrilled with her new dress, and she couldn't wait for Shabbat, the Jewish Sabbath, to arrive so that she could wear it. In fact, halacha (Jewish law) advises that one should try to wear new clothes on Shabbat. It is customary to save the finest of everything for Shabbat, wheather new clothes, the choicest foods, or a special bouquet of flowers. Involving the family in Shabbat preperations elevates the entire experience. Encourage your children to help set the table, braid the challah (traditional egg bread), or decorate place cards for the Friday night table.
